“Democracy in the Workplace” – An Interview with Jaz Brisack

Jaz Brisack, nationally known as a co-founder of Starbucks Workers United, is a practitioner in residence at the UC Berkeley Labor Center. During their year-long residency, Brisack developed the “Inside Organizer School,” which they co-founded in 2018 to train non-union workers and “salts” to unionize their workplaces.

Brisack is the author of the bestseller Get on the Job and Organize: Standing Up for a Better Workplace and a Better World, described by Robert Reich, former US Secretary of Labor and author of Aftershock and Saving Capitalism as follows:

“Here’s the light to illuminate these dark times — an account of how workers take on corporate power and win. Even more inspiring, it’s led by Gen Z. Starbucks Workers United has given new life to the American labor movement, and Jaz Brisack helped make it happen. Essential reading for anyone who cares about tackling economic inequality and saving democracy.”
